Verona Man Charged in Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy

PITTSBURGH—A resident of Verona, Pennsylvania has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The one-count indictment named Corey Thompson, 27, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the court, in or around February 2012, Thompson conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than five and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
