Pittsburgh Woman Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Stashing Heroin

PITTSBURGH, PA—A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty and was sentenced in federal court to serve 37 months in prison followed by three years’ supervised release for violating federal drug trafficking laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Chawna Manghan, 24, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 100 grams of heroin and was sentenced by United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Manghan regularly allowed her apartment in Pittsburgh to serve as a stash location for the conspiracy’s heroin. The conspiracy included members of the Manchester OG’s street gang. On March 3, 2011, a federal search warrant was served at Manghan’s apartment. Among the items found inside the master bedroom of the apartment were over 50 bricks of heroin.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.

U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Pittsburgh Police Department, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the Ross Township Police Department, the Canonsburg Police Department, and the Allegheny County Police Department for the successful investigation leading to the conviction in this case.
