Virginia Resident Sentenced on Conspiracy Charge

WHEELING, WV—A 30-year-old Woodbridge, Virginia, resident was sentenced today (September 14, 2011), in United States District Court in Wheeling by Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that ANTHONY M. WORTHAM was sentenced to 151 months’ imprisonment to be followed by five years of supervised release for his role in a cross-country cocaine and cocaine base conspiracy. WORTHAM entered a plea of guilty on June 21, 2011, to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and more than 28 grams of cocaine base from March 20, 2010, to January 29, 2011, in Wheeling, West Virginia, area. WORTHAM was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.
WORTHAM was involved in obtaining kilogram quantities of cocaine from Ontario, California, and having it driven across the country for delivery in the Wheeling, West Virginia, and Woodbridge, Virginia, areas. On January 25, 2011, during a traffic stop, WORTHAM was found in possession of 133 grams of crack cocaine, 76 grams of cocaine, $1,641 in U.S. currency, a digital scale,and a cell phone. Based on information developed subsequent to the traffic stop, agents in Virginia seized from a storage facility and WORTHAM’s home two firearms and $7,665 in drug proceeds. WORTHAM admitted to distributing more than 20 pounds of cocaine and 150 grams of crack cocaine, with a street value in excess of $500,000. As part of his plea, WORTHAM agreed to forfeiture and abandon three vehicles (2006 Dodge Charger, 2007 Chevrolet Impala and 2007 Chevrolet Avalance), two firearms and nearly $11,000 in drug proceeds.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr and was a cooperative investigation between DEA and the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force in Wheeling, the FBI and Prince William County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia, and state law enforcement and prosecutors in Canadian County, Oklahoma.
