Five Hazelton Inmates Sentenced on Weapons and Assault Charges

CLARKSBURG, WV—Five inmates at UPS Hazelton were sentenced on January 11, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that:
BRIAN PAIGE, age 35, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. PAIGE entered a plea of guilty to a one-count information charging him with possession of a homemade knife, also known as a shank, on March 2, 2010, while serving a sentence at USP Hazelton.
KENNETH SHAVER, age 31, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. SHAVER entered a plea of guilty to a one-count information charging him with assaulting a correctional officer causing injury on November 29, 2009, while serving a sentence at USP Hazelton.
DAVID SUTTON, age 36, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. SUTTON entered a plea of guilty to a one-count information charging him with possession of two homemade knives on May 22, 2010, while serving a sentence at USP Hazelton.
CHRISTOPHER SWIGER, age 33, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. SWIGER entered a plea of guilty to a one-count information charging him with possession of a homemade weapon on June 8, 2010, while serving a sentence at USP Hazelton.
AARON THOMAS, age 36, was sentenced to 108 months’ imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence. THOMAS was previously convicted in September 2010 of threatening to kill a correctional officer at USP Hazelton on January 26, 2010; and assaulting the correctional officer and causing injury.
The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Flower. The cases were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigative Services Unit at USP Hazelton.
