Judge Sentences Donora Cocaine Dealer to 15½ Years in Prison

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today that John Edward Crews, a resident of Donora, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 188 months’ (15 years, eight months) imprisonment on his conviction of violating federal drug laws.

Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr., imposed the sentence on Crews, age 37.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle, on March 30, 2006, Crews distributed and possessed with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. Additionally, on March 20, 2007, and on February 6, 2008, Crews distributed and possessed with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force—comprised of members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Pennsylvania State Police; the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation Division; officers from the Donora, Monessen, Charleroi and Monongahela Police Departments; and the Fayette County District Attorney’s Drug Enforcement Task Force—for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Crews.
