Cibeque Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Child Sexual Abuse

PHOENIX—On February 29, 2012, Joseph Cruz Nashio, 23, of Cibeque, Arizona, was sentenced by visiting U.S. District Judge John A. Jarvey to 20 years in prison, to be followed by a life term of supervised release. Nashio pleaded guilty on August 9, 2011, to abusive sexual contact with a minor.

Between August and December 2010, Nashio was sexually abusing the 11-year-old victim while she was in his care and custody. The victim disclosed the abuse after it had been going on for approximately one year. Nashio admitted to law enforcement that he sexually abused the young girl.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Dimitra H. Sampson, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
