Northern Arizona Man Sentenced to 41 Months for Assault

U.S. Attorney’s Office August 24, 2009
  • District of Arizona (602) 514-7500

PHOENIX—Jarvis Jay Dixson, 27, of Winslow, Ariz., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Mary H. Murguia to 41 months in federal prison. Dixson pleaded guilty on March 31, 2009, to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, which occurred in Dilkon, Ariz., on the Navajo Nation.

On August 19, 2008, Dixson was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child. He was assaulting his girlfriend while she was holding their baby. The 67- year- old victim stepped in and took the baby from Dixson’s girlfriend so the baby would not be hurt during the assault. Dixson then turned on the victim and hit her in the face so hard that he rendered her unconscious. She suffered serious bodily injury as a result of the assault, including multiple facial fractures.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Dimitra Sampson, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
