HARRISBURG—The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Michael Kman, age 51, resident of Harrisburg, was sentenced today to 180 months (15 years) in federal prison by U.S. District Court Judge Sylvia H. Rambo in Harrisburg for production of child pornography.

Kman was further ordered to 15 years’ supervised release and to register as a sex offender upon his release from federal prison.

According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, Kman was charged in April 2015 and pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in July 2015. The charges against Kman were a result of Kman inducing, persuading and coercing his daughter, then age 17, to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the sexual activity.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the East Pennsboro Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph J. Terz with assistance from the office’s Victim Rights And Asset Recovery Unit.
