Williamsport Man Indicted on Federal Firearm Charge

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that a grand jury sitting in Williamsport has returned a one-count indictment charging a Williamsport man on a firearm charge.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Derek Lee Walker, age 34, is charged with disposing of a firearm to a convicted felon. The indictment alleges that Walker provided a 9mm Taurus handgun to a convicted felon on or after March 21, 2010.
If convicted, Walker, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and a three-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecution of this matter has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney George J. Rocktashel.
An indictment or information is not evidence of guilt but simply a description of the charge made by the grand jury and/or United States Attorney against a defendant. A charged defendant is presumed innocent until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the United States has proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant has pled guilty to the charges.
