New Jersey Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Attempted Internet Enticement of a Minor

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a 41-year-old Mount Laurel, New Jersey resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday by U.S. District Court Senior Judge A. Richard Caputo for using the Internet to attempt to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual conduct.

According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Randall Reddig previously admitted to committing the offense during November 2007, to July 2009.

Reddig was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2009, as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Scranton Police, and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office.

Judge Caputo also ordered that Reddig be placed on supervised release for life following his prison sentence, pay a $1,000 fine, and a special assessment of $100.

U.S. Attorney Smith noted that this case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006, by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
