Philadelphia Felon Charged with Firearms Offense

Today, Juan Sanchez was charged in an indictment with possessing firearms as a convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment alleges that on or about July 10, 2010, Sanchez possessed a Ruger .22 caliber pistol and that on or about August 26, 2010, Sanchez possessed a Raven Arms .25 caliber pistol loaded with six live rounds; a .38 caliber revolver; a Ruger 9 mm pistol, with an obliterated serial number, loaded with 10 live rounds of ammunition; and an Intratec 9 mm handgun.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, five years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative designed to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendant is likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Attorney General’s Gun Violence Task Force. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Neuman Leverett.
