Philadelphia Felon Indicted on Firearms Charge

United States Attorney Michael L. Levy and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of a one-count indictment charging that Dwayne Parker, on October 22, 2009, was a convicted felon who possessed a firearm in Philadelphia after having been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

If convicted, the defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment, including a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years, a $250,000 fine, five years supervised release, and $100 special assessment.
This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative designed to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendant is likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Whitehead, Jr.
