Philadelphia Man Pleads Guilty to Armed Robbery Charges

PHILADELPHIA - Marvin Sutter, a/k/a Michael Gomez, 45, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty today to interfering with interstate commerce by robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and using a firearm during a violent crime, announced Acting United States Attorney Laurie Magid.  On May 9, 2008, Sutter robbed the Payless Shoe Store located at 4640 East Roosevelt Boulevard #B, in Philadelphia, at gunpoint, and stole U.S. currency.  On May 24, 2008, the defendant robbed a cab driver from the Quaker City Cab Company, in Philadelphia, at gunpoint, and stole U.S. currency.  On June 4, 2008, Sutter was arrested for possession of a firearm.               

Sutter faces a total maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a 32 year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, 5 years supervised release, and a $1,250,000 fine when sentenced on April 7, 2009.

This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Melanie E. Babb.
