Omaha Man Sentenced for Computer Hacking

Christopher Douglas, 28, was sentenced on a misdemeanor charge of intruding into a computer engaged in interstate commerce. The Honorable Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced Douglas to a two-year term of probation. Douglas was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,438.04.

Douglas had been laid off from the IT department at Fisher Fixture Company. After leaving Fisher Fixture, Douglas made repeated attempts to hack into the company’s computer system to read e-mails. Douglas was interviewed as a search warrant was served on his apartment. He admitted to hacking into employee e-mails but said he did not delete or alter any information.

The matter was investigated by agents and investigators assigned to the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force, which includes the Nebraska State Patrol, whose investigators assumed the primary role in the investigation.
