Omaha Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Phillip Doremus, 22, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced for bank robbery. The Honorable Laurie Smith Camp sentenced Doremus to 51 months in the custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons. After his release from prison, Doremus will begin a three-year term of supervised release. Doremus is liable for restitution in the amount of $9,322.00.
On December 23, 2009, Doremus entered the Bank of the West located inside the Hy-Vee grocery store on 108th & Fort Street wearing a black face mask and brandishing what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun. Doremus demanded money from one of the tellers and escaped with $9,322.36 in cash.
An extensive investigation was then undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Omaha Police Department which led to Doremus being identified as the robber. He was ultimately charged by a federal grand jury. On August 29, 2011, Doremus admitted to his conduct and entered a plea of guilty to the charge of bank robbery before the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
