One Guilty Plea and One Sentencing in Waterloo Methamphetamine Conspiracy

A Waterloo man pled guilty February 15, 2011, in federal court in Cedar Rapids to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and a co-defendant was sentenced on February 10, 2011, to federal prison.

Ferid Nadarevic, 40, from Waterloo, Iowa, was convicted yesterday of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

At the plea hearing, Nadarevic admitted his involvement in a long term methamphetamine conspiracy from 2005 through 2010.

Sentencing for Nadarevic before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Nadarevic remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Nadarevic faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and up to life, a $4,000,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and five years to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.

On February 10, 2011, Brian Hanson, 40, from Waterloo, Iowa, was sentenced in federal court to 168 months’ imprisonment, a $100 special assessment and 10 years’ supervised release for his involvement in a related methamphetamine conspiracy.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert and were investigated by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Oelwein Police Department, Tri-County Drug Task Force, Cedar Rapids DEA Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, Internal Revenue Service, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Tri-County Drug Task Force is composed of the Waterloo Police Department, Cedar Falls Police Department, Waverly Police Department, Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, LaPorte City Police Department, Evansdale Police Department, Hudson Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Cedar Rapids Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force consists of the DEA; Linn County Sheriff’s Office; Cedar Rapids Police Department; Marion Police Department; Iowa City Police Department; Clinton Police Department; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; and Iowa National Guard.
