Independence, Missouri Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

DES MOINES, IA—On August 11, 2011, Shawn Christopher Logan, age 36, of Independence, Missouri, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment for armed bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Logan to serve five years of supervised release following his imprisonment and pay $200 to the Crime Victims Fund.

This case involved the May 10, 2010, armed robbery of the Liberty Bank in West Des Moines. The defendant brandished a firearm during the robbery, and stole an employee’s vehicle in order to get away. The firearm was discharged inside the vehicle, and a high-speed chase ensued. The West Des Moines Police Department was able to stop the vehicle using the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), and the defendant was apprehended at the scene.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Des Moines Police Department, and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
