Winnebago Man Sentenced for Illegally Possessing Eagle Feathers

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announce the following information for the attention of the media:
Event Triggering this Release:
Lamar Bertucci, age 40 of Winnebago, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison by Joseph F. Bataillon, Chief United States District Judge, following his conviction for the illegal possession of eagle feathers. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service officers received a report of several eagle carcasses found alongside the Missouri River near Macy, Nebraska. During the course of the investigation an agent discovered that Lamar Bertucci had been involved in shooting the eagles. Witnesses reported to law enforcement that they were present when Bertucci shot eagles and that he had subsequently sold eagle and hawk feathers to others wanting to make headdresses. On March 28, 2008, a search warrant was executed at Lamar Bertucci’s home and several eagle feathers and carcasses were recovered.
