U.S. Attorney’s Office April 02, 2009
  • District of Nebraska (402) 661-3700

DAVENPORT, IA—On April 2, 2009, James Wensel, Jr., 37, of Knoxville, Illinois, IA, was sentenced to 235 months’ imprisonment on each of two counts Distributing Child Pornography, with the terms of imprisonment to be served concurrently, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Wensel will serve a term of 10 years supervised release following his incarceration, and assessed him to pay $200 to the Crime Victim Fund. Wensel, a former police officer, distributed child pornography to what he believed was a 13 yearold- girl in an attempt to persuade the girl to meet him and have sex. He also sent images of himself masturbating. In his chats with the 13-year-old, Wensel referred to the fact that he could get in a great deal of trouble for what he was doing, insisting that they would need to keep it a secret. The 13-yearold was, in fact, an undercover police officer.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Burlington, Iowa, Police Department.
