Newport News Man Indicted on Six Counts of Robbery

NEWPORT NEWS, VA—Dennis Brown, 44, of Newport News, Virginia, was indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on six counts of robbery.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement. Brown faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

According to the indictment, Brown was involved in robberies on July 15, 2010, at the Raceway Gas Station; July 19, 2010, at the BP Miller Mart Gas Station; July 20, 2010, at Dollar General Store; and on July 24, 2010, at the Dollar General Store, Dodges Chicken, and the Raceway Gas Station. In all but the last robbery, Brown brandished and pointed a knife at employees of the business and demanded cash during the robbery.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Eric M. Hurt is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.

Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
