Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Receipt of Child Pornography

NEWPORT NEWS, VA—Thomas Scott Biers, Jr., 25, of Williamsburg, VA, was sentenced today to 16 years in prison for receipt of child pornography, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Mark S. Davis. Biers pled guilty on May 27, 2010.
According to court documents, Biers was identified through the Peninsula Innocent Images Task Force when the Task Force downloaded images of child pornography from Bier's computer. A forensic examination of Biers’ computers and computer media, seized pursuant to a search warrant, revealed that among images possessed by Biers were depictions of prepubescent children engaged in sex acts with adults and other images that depicted sadism and masochism involving children.
This case was investigated by the FBI’s Peninsula Innocent Images Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Elizabeth Yusi and Lisa R. McKeel prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
