Request for Public Assistance to Identify Armed Robbers -- Reward Offered
Press Conference Scheduled for Thursday, 03/12/2009, at 1:00 p.m. Hosted by Virginia Beach Police Department, Public Safety Building #11, 2509 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA

FBI Norfolk March 11, 2009
  • Special Agent Philip J. Mann (757) 455-0100

The FBI seeks assistance in locating individuals involved in a series of armed robberies and has increased the reward to an amount up to $75,000 for information leading directly to the arrest and conviction of the responsible individuals. On 07/17/2008, the Norfolk Division of the FBI hosted a press conference requesting public assistance to identify suspects believed to be responsible for a series of armed robberies and other crimes including: a used-car dealership burglary in Richmond (12/19/2004); an armored car robbery in Henrico County (02/14/2005); a used-car dealership burglary in Newport News (04/24/2008); an armored car robbery at Bank of America in Chesapeake (05/12/2008). To date, the suspects have not been identified, but the following information may assist in their arrest:

On Monday, 02/23/2009, at approximately 2:24 p.m., the Virginia Beach Police Department was notified of an armored car robbery at the Bank of America, located in the 4600 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., in the City of Virginia Beach.

The investigation to date has determined that while the armored car was being loaded, a black Chevrolet Suburban occupied by two masked males drove up to the armored car. The driver and passenger of the Suburban subsequently exited the suspect vehicle and pointed rifles at the armored vehicle’s courier while ordering him to the ground. The suspects grabbed several bags of currency from the armored car and fled in a silver Ford Explorer parked nearby while leaving the original suspect vehicle at the scene. The suspects’ Ford Explorer was subsequently located a short distance from the scene as a result of an exhaustive search by the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The two suspects in this armored car robbery are described as white males, both wearing black ski masks and dark clothing. It is believed this robbery may be linked to other robberies in the City of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Henrico County. A composite of one the suspects in the 02/14/2005, armored car robbery which matches one of the suspects in the Bank of America armored car robbery has been provided by the Henrico Police Department.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers Office at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or the Norfolk FBI Office at (757) 455-0100. The FBI is offering a cash reward of up to $75,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Representatives from the participating agencies will announce the above and will be available to answer questions at a press conference, which will be hosted by Virginia Beach Police Department at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, 03/12/2009. A videotape of the 02/23/2009 robbery will be provided after the press conference.
