Croatian Officials Return to the FBI’s New York Office for Discussions on Combating Corruption and Financial Crimes

FBI New York December 01, 2010

Last February, members of the FBI New York’s Criminal Division met with white-collar crime and anti-corruption officials from Croatia to discuss investigative procedures and approaches to combating public corruption and other criminal activities. Today, Croatian officials were once again welcomed to the FBI’s New York Office for an informative discussion exploring bilateral, regional, and international partnerships in countering aspects of corruption and financial crimes.

Croatian officials from the Ministry of Justice, Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), and Ministry of Interior (PNUSKOK) were in attendance for this afternoon’s briefing. Mr. Davor Dubravica, head of the Anti-Corruption Department, represented the Ministry of Justice. “Today, we enjoyed a mutual exchange of ideas on combating crime and corruption in the United States. This meeting provided an opportunity to increase our understanding of the FBI, and build upon this important relationship with our law enforcement partners. We look forward to strengthening and maintaining a collaborative partnership,” said Dubravica.

Today, the FBI has legal attaché offices—commonly known as legats—and smaller sub-offices in 75 key cities around the globe, providing coverage for more than 200 countries, territories, and islands. The FBI operates a legat in Vienna, Austria covering the nation of Croatia. Our legal attaché program is managed by the International Operations Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This office keeps in close contact with other federal agencies, Interpol, foreign police, and security officers in Washington, and national and international law enforcement associations.

During the meeting, FBI Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Eugene Casey said, “We enjoy an excellent relationship with our law enforcement partners in Croatia and are honored to welcome them here today. By expanding upon the collaborative efforts of law enforcement organizations throughout the world, we are able to grow and learn together. These visits fortify our relationships with international law enforcement members who share the common goal of combating criminal activities.”
