Yesterday, personnel from the FBI’s New York Office met with Renata Polverini, president of the Lazio region of Italy. Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Criminal Division Diego Rodriguez, Coordinating Supervisory Special Agent George Khouzami, and Supervisory Special Agent Michael Gaeta met with President Polverini and other Italian officials to share ideas and discuss the continued cooperation efforts in combating international crime.
During her first visit to the FBI, President Polverini was provided an overview of the FBI’s New York Office and the Criminal Division’s programs. The discussion centered on an exchange of the asset forfeiture programs. Other topics discussed included strengthening the relationships between law enforcement authorities and opportunities for foreign law enforcement agencies to attend the FBI National Academy. The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders that serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.
President Renata Polverini had this to say about today’s visit: “Italy and the U.S. have had a long history of continued cooperation in law enforcement efforts. This meeting is an example of both parties’ commitment to strengthening our working relationship.”
“The FBI is pleased to host President Polverini today and have the opportunity to bolster our relationships with foreign authorities. We look forward to continued coordination and subsequent success in law enforcement operations with the Italian authorities,” said SAC Rodriguez.
Lazio is a region of west central Italy that includes Rome and is among the most populated regions in Italy.
