Statement by Assistant Director Jill Sanborn on Charges Against Oregon Resident for Providing Material Support to ISIS

Assistant Director Jill Sanborn of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division released the following statement concerning the indictment of Hawazen Sameer Mothafar. Mothafar was charged with conspiring to provide material support to ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Today’s announcement underscores the FBI’s commitment to combating terrorism. We will aggressively pursue anyone who conspires with or provides material support to a foreign terrorist organization and will hold them accountable for actively supporting their violent agenda. The indictment alleges that the defendant pledged allegiance to ISIS, produced and distributed ISIS propaganda and recruiting materials, as well as publications and articles encouraging violence. The FBI and our partners on the Joint Terrorism Task Forces will continue to relentlessly pursue all individuals who choose to support terrorist organizations.
