Salvador Hernandez Named Assistant Director In Charge of FBI’s Los Angeles Division

Slavador Hernandez has been named Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC) of the FBI’s Los Angeles Division. Director Robert S. Mueller, III, appointed him to this position to replace current ADIC J. Stephen Tidwell, who will be returning to FBI Headquarters in a senior policy position. Most recently, Mr. Hernandez served as Deputy Assistant Director for the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division.

Mr. Hernandez entered on duty as a special agent with the FBI in 1984. Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico , Virginia , he reported to the Tucson , Arizona , Resident Agency of the Phoenix Division. In 1988, he was transferred to the San Juan Division, where he was assigned to domestic terrorism matters and led the FBI’s investigation of the terror organization known as the Macheteros.

Mr. Hernandez was transferred to the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington , D.C. , in 1991 as a supervisor in the Undercover and Sensitive Operations Unit, where he managed public corruption and financial crime undercover operations. In 1994, he was named Supervisor of the White Collar Crime Squad in the St. Louis Division. Mr. Hernandez was promoted to the position of Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Louisville Division in 2000. During his tenure in Louisville , he had program management responsibility for all aspects of the Criminal, Counterterrorism, and National Foreign Intelligence Programs.

In 2002, Mr. Hernandez was named FBI Legal Attaché in Mexico City . He was named Special Agent in Charge of the Oklahoma City Division in 2004, where he served until he was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters in 2006.

Mr. Hernandez was born in Mexico City and at an early age moved with his family to St. Louis , Missouri . He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from St. Louis University in 1981 and a Juris Doctorate from the same institution in 1984. He is married and has one daughter.
