National Academy of Sciences Issues "A Review of the FBI's Trilogy Information Technology Modernization Program"

Today, the National Academy of Sciences issued a follow-up letter to a May 11, 2004 report they compiled entitled "A Review of the FBI's Trilogy Information Technology Modernization Program."

Since the completion of that report, FBI officials provided a May 20, 2004 briefing to the National Research Council's Committee (NRC) to highlight significant progress over the past few months since the last time the FBI had briefed NRC staff.

The committee writes in today's letter that it is reassured by the FBI plans and intentions since the delivery of the original report. The committee also stated they were "impressed" with the selection and leadership of our chief information officer and saw "clear evidence of progress."

While many challenges remain, the report states that the FBI has made more rapid progress than would have been expected from the information it had available at the time of the original report.

We appreciate the NRC's attention and input into this important, high-priority effort and we remain committed to the continuous strengthening of our information technology capabilities.
