Director Christopher Wray has named John P. Selleck as the assistant director of the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG). Most recently, Mr. Selleck was the special agent in charge of the Administrative Division at the Washington Field Office.

The Critical Incident Response Group provides rapid assistance during crisis incidents such as child abductions and hostage negotiations and provides investigative analysis, special weapons and tactics, and other services. CIRG also helps assess, select, and train FBI undercover employees.

Mr. Selleck joined the FBI as a special agent in 1999. He was first assigned to the Greensboro Resident Agency under the Charlotte Field Office in North Carolina. In 2007, he moved to the Drug Unit of the Gang and Criminal Enterprise Section of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters, where he served as the national program manager and training coordinator.

He transferred to the Detroit Field Office in 2009, working as a supervisor on a violent crime squad and on two task forces, then became a Joint Terrorism Task Force squad supervisor in 2011. The next year, Mr. Selleck was named the assistant special agent in charge of the criminal programs and all seven resident agencies of the New Orleans Field Office.

In 2015, Mr. Selleck was promoted to section chief in CIRG, overseeing such programs as the FBI’s response to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction. He was named deputy assistant director of CIRG in 2016 and was responsible for the operational sections and administrative functions. As deputy assistant director, he led and managed numerous critical incidents and expanded the Hazardous Devices School in Huntsville, Alabama, into a world-class training facility. In 2018, he moved to the Washington Field Office.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Selleck earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and worked at a behavior modification program for court-appointed juvenile delinquents in Michigan. He also served in the Michigan Army National Guard and the Lansing Police Department. Mr. Selleck received the FBI Director’s Award for Excellence to the Law Enforcement Officer Community.
