  1. Headquarters: Preliminary Semiannual Crime Statistics for 2012 Released

    The Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report is based on information from more than 13,300 law enforcement agencies that submitted three to six comparable months of data to the FBI in the first six months of 2011 and 2012. Full Story

  2. Chicago: Tahawwur Rana Sentenced to 14 Years for Supporting Terrorism

    The Pakistani native was convicted of conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist plot in Denmark and providing material support to Lashkar e Tayyiba, a terrorist organization that was responsible for the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India. Full Story

  3. Washington: Former FEMA Human Resources Executive Pleads Guilty to Conflict of Interest Charge

    Timothy W. Cannon admitted to negotiating employment with a polling and consulting services company that had a multi-million-dollar contract with FEMA, supervised by Cannon. Full Story

  4. Cincinnati: Former Columbus Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Sexual Coercion of Minors

    Todd L. Smith, who was assigned as a resource officer at a local high school, had illicit relationships with two 15-year old females. Full Story

  5. New Haven: Woman Indicted for Making False Statements to Federal Agents Investigating Newtown Fundraising Fraud

    Nouel Alba is alleged to have lied to FBI agents about using her Facebook account, telephone calls, and text messages to falsely claim to be an aunt of a shooting victim to solicit donations for the child’s “funeral fund.” Full Story

    The defendants are alleged to have participated in a Medicare fraud scheme operating out of four Oakland County home health agencies claiming to provide in-home health services. Full Story

    More than 300 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers carried out arrests and executed search warrants as part of the investigation into the violence and distribution of drugs by two street gangs. Full Story

    The defendants are accused of participating in a large-scale heroin trafficking ring that resulted in the overdose death of an Ashtabula resident last year. Full Story

  10. Philadelphia/Detroit: Former Football Coach Pleads Guilty to Producing Child Pornography, Interstate Extortion, and Cyberstalking  

    Former Holy Redeemer High School coach Joseph J. Ostrowski admitted that he frequently posed as students, school alumni, and other persons and used Facebook, Skype, e-mail, instant messaging, and cellular text messaging to commit the crimes. Full Story
