  1. Detroit: ‘Underwear Bomber’ Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attempted Christmas Day Attack

    Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the so-called “underwear bomber,” was sentenced to life in prison as a result of his guilty plea to all eight counts of a federal indictment charging him for his role in the attempted Christmas Day 2009 bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253. Full Story

    Roberto Angel Cardona, a Barrio Azteca gang leader, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for his participation in a racketeering conspiracy. Full Story

  3. Chicago: Two Execs Sentenced for Defrauding Investors, Clients of Over $93 Million

    Two co-founders of Canopy Financial, Inc., a bankrupt health care transaction software company, were sentenced to 15 and 13 years in prison for running a $75 million investment fraud scheme and for raiding $18 million from the custodial health care expense accounts of 1,600 customers.     Five Rhode Island men identified as leaders or associates of the New England organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra agreed to plead guilty to racketeering-related charges.  Full Story

  5. New York: Former NYPD Officer and New Jersey Corrections Officer Plead Guilty to Conspiring to Distribute Firearms and Stolen Goods

    Marco Venezia, a former New York City Police Department officer, and David Kanwisher, a corrections officer in New Jersey, each pled guilty to participating in a scheme to illegally transport firearms, including M-16 rifles and handguns, and stolen goods across state lines. Full Story

  6. Albuquerque: Zuni Pueblo Man Sentenced to 63 Months for Federal Manslaughter Conviction

    Cameron Kalestewa, a member of Zuni Pueblo, was sentenced to 63 months in prison killing another Zuni Pueblo man during an altercation that took place on November 17, 2010. Full Story

    Sol Luis Fontanes-Olivo, mayor of the municipality of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, was arrested for accepting more than $50,000 in bribes concerning programs receiving federal funds. Full Story

  8. Newark: Hoover Five-Deuce Crip Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Newark Assault of FBI Agent

    A member of the Hoover-Five Deuce Crips criminal street gang was sentenced to 360 months in prison for offenses related to his involvement in a 2010 assault on an FBI special agent and task force officer. Full Story

  10. Baltimore: Man Pleads Guilty in Scheme to Fraudulently Obtain Money from Baltimore Housing Authority Account

    William Allen Darden, of Washington, D.C., pleed guilty to conspiring to commit bank fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain over $1.399 million from a Baltimore Housing Authority bank account in just a few months. Full Story
