FBI Agent Killed in Training Accident on Fort A.P. Hill Range

Washington, D.C. December 06, 2006

An FBI agent assigned to the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), who was taking part in a training exercise on a Fort A.P. Hill range, was accidentally shot and fatally wounded this afternoon. The agent has been identified as Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Gregory J. Rahoi, age 38 of Wisconsin.

SSA Rahoi was immediately evacuated via helicopter to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Va., where he was later pronounced dead.

SSA Rahoi joined the Bureau in April 1997 and served with HRT for the past six years.

Fort A.P. Hill is a regional training and maneuver center. The installation regularly hosts approximately 60,000 Soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines annually on the 76,000-acre post’s live-fire ranges and maneuver land. Federal agencies affiliated with law enforcement and homeland security also use the installation’s training facilities on a regular basis.

A thorough investigation of the incident will be conducted by the FBI and Army.
