FBI Director Announces Appointment of Ronald L. Dick as Director of the NIPC

FBI Director Louis J. Freeh announced today the appointment of Ronald L. Dick as the deputy assistant director of the FBI's National Infrastructure and Computer Intrusion Program and as the director of the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC). The mission of the NIPC is to detect, deter, warn of, respond to, and investigate malicious acts, both physical and cyber, that threaten the nation's critical infrastructures.

Director Freeh stated: "Ron Dick has a wealth of experience to offer the NIPC due to his previous assignments in the field and at FBI Headquarters, specifically in the two section chief positions he held in the NIPC. His energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism will serve to lead and inspire the employees of the NIPC as they carry out their mission to protect the infrastructures of the United States."

Mr. Dick was designated a special agent of the FBI in 1977. After completing training, he was assigned to the El Paso, Dallas, and Detroit Divisions of the FBI. In these assignments, he investigated violent, white-collar, and drug crimes.

Upon completing his assignment with the Detroit Division in 1985, he was transferred to FBI Headquarters (FBIHQ), Washington, D.C., as a supervisor in the Audit Unit, Inspection Division. In January 1988, he was assigned to the Columbia, South Carolina office of the FBI as program coordinator for the drug, white-collar crime, and interstate theft programs for the state of South Carolina.

From June 1992 to June 1996, Mr. Dick held the position of chief in the Computer/Financial Institution Crimes Unit, Financial Crimes Section at FBIHQ. The unit was responsible for the coordination of all financial institution fraud and computer crime investigations throughout the United States. Mr. Dick was subsequently appointed to the position of assistant special agent in charge (ASAC) for the state of New Mexico.

In September 1998, Mr. Dick returned to FBIHQ and was assigned to the NIPC. While with the NIPC, Mr. Dick has served as the section chief of both the Training, Administrative, and Outreach Section, as well as the Computer Investigations and Operations Section.

Mr. Dick received a Bachelor of Science degree from New Mexico, with a major in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Texas. Prior to his employment with the FBI, he was an account manager for the Burroughs Corporation, now known as Unisys Corporation.
