W.L. Scott Bean, III Named Special Agent in Charge of Administrative Division of the Washington Field Office

Director James B. Comey has named Scott Bean special agent in charge of the FBI’s Administrative Division of the Washington Field Office (WFO). Mr. Bean most recently served as section chief for the Technical Surveillance Section of the Operational Technology Division at FBI Headquarters (FBIHQ).

Mr. Bean began his career with the FBI in 1997. He was first assigned to WFO as a security supervisor and then as acting chief security officer. In this role, he oversaw the Director’s protective detail, the Attorney General’s protective detail, and two security squads.

During his career, Mr. Bean investigated white-collar crime, drug trafficking, and domestic and international terrorism. He was a Joint Terrorism Task Force Coordinator and a coordinator for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 2002, Mr. Bean was assigned to the Counterterrorism Division at FBIHQ, where he led the White Supremacy Program for the Domestic Terrorism Operations Unit. Mr. Bean was then assigned as supervisor of the economic crime squad at WFO. In this position, he investigated matters of corporate fraud, insider trading, market manipulation, and mail and wire fraud.

In 2011, Mr. Bean was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the White-Collar Crime Branch of WFO and provided oversight of all public corruption, economic crime, and health care cases.

Before joining the FBI, Mr. Bean served as a personal lender, corporate lender, and assistant vice president for Wachovia and BB&T. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University.
