Michael Sullivan Named Assistant Director of the Office of Private Sector

FBI Director Christopher Wray has named Michael Sullivan as assistant director of the Office of Private Sector. In this position, Mr. Sullivan oversees the FBI’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with the U.S. private sector, which are vital to the country’s national and economic security.

Mr. Sullivan comes to the FBI with a wealth of experience gained in a professional career that has spanned 38 years in law enforcement and private sector security. From 2003 to 2018, Mr. Sullivan was employed by Rockwell Collins, Inc., and eventually rose to the position of director of global security, leading a team of 142 employees in 27 countries around the world. Mr. Sullivan’s security team won four James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Awards from the Defense Security Service for leading a major operational conversion of an organization that was on the brink of revenue loss into an industry-leading innovator in enterprise-wide security standardization. In his former position, Mr. Sullivan was an active participant in the public-private partnership known as the Domestic Security Alliance Council (DSAC), and he will continue to engage with DSAC in his current position at the FBI.

From 1985 to 2003, Mr. Sullivan served as a police officer with the Dubuque Police Department in Dubuque, Iowa, where he became captain of criminal investigations. In 1999, he graduated from the FBI National Academy.

Mr. Sullivan was one of the charter members and co-chair of the Safeguard Iowa Partnership, a public-private partnership that identifies and marshals resources to effectively respond to large-scale crises that impact the state of Iowa.

Throughout his career, Mr. Sullivan has authored and published a number of law enforcement- and security-related articles in professional periodicals.

Mr. Sullivan received a bachelor’s degree in administration of criminal justice from Mountain State University and an Executive Masters of Business Administration from the University of Iowa.
