Director Christopher Wray has named David Walker as the special agent in charge of the Tampa Field Office in Florida. He most recently served as a section chief in the Critical Incident Response Group at FBI Headquarters in Washington.

Mr. Walker joined the FBI as a special agent in 1998 and was assigned to the New York Field Office. He investigated terrorism cases, including the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Dar Es Saleem, Tanzania; the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen; and the 9/11 attack.

In 2002, Mr. Walker was selected for the Hostage Rescue Team, the nation’s only full-time domestic counterterrorism unit, based at Quantico, Virginia. He served on the team for nine years as an operator and deployed on numerous operations, including several overseas deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. During his time on the team, in 2007, he was promoted to supervisory special agent and assault team leader.

Mr. Walker was named an assistant legal attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Rome in 2012, working counterterrorism issues with international partners. In 2014, he was appointed to serve as a unit chief in the Critical Incident Response Group, leading one of the operational units for the Hostage Rescue Team.

In 2015, Mr. Walker transferred to the Washington Field Office, where he served as a counterterrorism supervisor. In 2018, he was named the assistant special agent in charge of the Counterterrorism Branch at WFO.

Mr. Walker returned to the Critical Incident Response Group in 2020 after a promotion to chief of the Tactical Section.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Walker was an attorney.
