David P. Gelios Named Special Agent in Charge of FBI Detroit Division

Director James B. Comey has named David P. Gelios as the special agent in charge of the Detroit Division. Mr. Gelios most recently served as the chief inspector of the FBI’s Inspection Division, as well as the Inspection Division’s acting deputy assistant director from June 2014 until March 2015. As the chief inspector, Mr. Gelios oversaw all FBI field office inspections, national program reviews, and agent-involved shooting investigations.

Mr. Gelios entered on duty with the FBI in 1995 and was assigned to the Sacramento Division’s Stockton Resident Agency, where he conducted investigations in all FBI investigative programs in Stockton’s jurisdiction, primarily complex financial and violent crime matters. During his tenure in the Sacramento Division, Mr. Gelios served on the evidence response team and was trained as a crisis negotiator.

In November 1999, Mr. Gelios transferred to the Anchorage Division’s Juneau Resident Agency, where he was again responsible for investigations in all FBI programs in Juneau’s jurisdiction.

In June 2002, Mr. Gelios was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Office of Congressional Affairs at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. After serving as the FBI’s primary liaison to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, during which time post-September 11 hearings and reviews were conducted, Mr. Gelios was promoted to unit chief in the Office of Congressional Affairs. Under his leadership, the size and mission of the office were expanded significantly.

In November 2004, Mr. Gelios was selected as the supervisory senior resident agent of a new squad consisting of five western Kentucky resident agencies in the Louisville Division.

In August 2006, Mr. Gelios returned to the Sacramento Division, where he served as the supervisory senior resident agent of the Bakersfield Resident Agency. Mr. Gelios oversaw successful investigations in counterintelligence, counterterrorism, violent crime, and complex financial crimes, including the prosecution of one of the largest and most damaging mortgage fraud schemes in the Eastern District of California.

In October 2010, Mr. Gelios was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the New Haven Division. During his time in Connecticut, Mr. Gelios was the program manager for the criminal, national security, cyber, intelligence, and administrative programs, as well as New Haven’s critical incident management program and SWAT Team.

A native of Ohio with strong roots in Ohio and Michigan, Mr. Gelios is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and a former high school teacher, college coach, and outreach officer for the University of California Office of the President.

Mr. Gelios reports to Detroit in early October.
