FBI Director Christopher Wray has named J.C. Hacker as special agent in charge of the Atlanta Field Office. Mr. Hacker most recently served as the acting special agent in charge of the Atlanta Field Office.

Mr. Hacker entered on duty with the FBI as a special agent in 2000. Following graduation from the FBI Academy, he was assigned to the Jackson Field Office, where he worked white-collar crime, civil rights, public corruption, and counterintelligence matters. He was also a member of the SWAT team and a firearms instructor.

In 2008, Mr. Hacker was promoted to supervisory special agent in Jackson, where he oversaw the office’s counterterrorism program and led the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). He also led the special agent bomb technician and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs. In 2010, he was promoted to the Counterterrorism Division’s National JTTF.

In 2013, Mr. Hacker was selected to serve as the assistant special agent in charge of the Mobile Field Office’s national security branch. The next year he became the assistant special agent in charge of the criminal/administrative branch.

Mr. Hacker was promoted to the senior executive ranks in 2015 as section chief, where he served as the chief of staff for the National Security Branch at FBI Headquarters, which included the Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence and Divisions as well as the WMD Directorate, Terrorist Screening Center, and the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group.

In 2016, Mr. Hacker began serving as the deputy assistant director of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID), where he oversaw all matters related to financial crimes, public corruption, civil rights, and covert operations. In March 2018, he was named CID’s acting assistant director.

Mr. Hacker earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Prior to joining the FBI, he served five years with the Lexington Police Department.
