Yesterday, the FBI, along with our General Services Administration partners, participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for a Central Records Complex (CRC) to be located in Winchester, Virginia. It is a milestone in the FBI’s efforts to enhance operational efficiencies by centralizing FBI records from nearly 300 locations worldwide.

The FBI relies on records, often vital case files, to gather intelligence and conduct investigations. Today, FBI records are stored in the metro D.C. area, across 56 field offices, and at hundreds of additional locations around the world. The CRC will centralize FBI records in a secure, state of the art records and technology center. The CRC will provide storage for approximately 120 miles of paper records and work space for approximately 446 employees. The CRC will also provide the technology to digitize records on demand and to provide our stakeholders with a timely response to requests for information.

The FBI has successfully operated a number of record management functions out of Winchester for years. The FBI looks forward to enhancing our presence with the CRC and continuing our strong relationship with the Winchester community.
