Mollie Halpern: The FBI is asking for the public’s help to track down a man wanted for cheating hundreds of older Americans out of their life savings.

Jean Chauvel and his co-conspirator created a fake company in Florida called Forex Monthly Income Fund, which purportedly conducted foreign exchange trading.

Case agent Sarah Gioielli says Chauvel was a con man who promised his victims their investments would result in monthly profits between 2 and 5 percent.

Sarah Gioielli: In actuality, none of that money ever went to foreign exchange. It was a traditional Ponzi scheme.

Halpern: Jean Chauvel and his partner kept about $600,000 to feed their own greed.

Sarah Gioielli: Jean Chauvel was living in a high-end condo close to the beach and he was driving a luxury vehicle.

Halpern: Jean Chauvel uses the alias John Chauvel.

Gioielli: He has a Canadian passport and we believe he has family in Canada. He was born in Haiti and we know he has ties to the Haitian community.
