Mollie Halpern: It’s a serious and continuing concern: weapons of mass destruction being developed or purchased by terrorists and criminals.

Laurie Bennett: We worry about chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological…all those different types of modalities being used by individuals wanting to harm the United States.

Mollie Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is FBI, This Week. The Bureau marks the fifth anniversary of the creation of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate, which investigates, prevents, counters, and responds to weapons of mass destruction threats and events. To achieve its mission, Deputy Assistant Director Laurie Bennett says the workforce is comprised of agents, analysts, scientists, and more.

Bennett: We have a very robust workforce that works across the entire spectrum of the FBI’s specialties.

Halpern: The FBI works hand in hand with other federal agencies, as well as local, national, and international partners.

Bennett: Crime is so global that we have placed WMD coordinators throughout the world so that they can work with the local law enforcement.

Halpern: To learn more, visit www.fbi.gov.
