Mollie Halpern: A new union between two FBI programs is proving successful when it comes to investigating crimes against children.

Michael T. Harpster: So now we have it all under one roof. We’re working the most heinous crimes out there against crimes against children.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern, and this is FBI, This Week. The merger allows the FBI to leverage its cyber investigative and its traditional crime fighting tools to enhance its capabilities to catch child predators. Along with the merger came the creation of the Child Exploitation Task Forces, or CETFs. Michael Harpster is the chief of the Violent Crimes Against Children Section…

Harpster: Now we have 66 Child Exploitation Task Forces—at least one in every office—solely dedicated to our mission.

Halpern: The CETFs are a force multiplier composed of child crime experts from the FBI and 600 of its local, state, and federal partners. So far this fiscal year, the CETFs have arrested more than 1,300 people.
