Mollie Halpern: A look back at 2012 shows two of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives were captured.

Joseph Lewis: Most agents dream of capturing a Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive. Capturing two in one year is really an accomplishment.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern, and this is FBI, This Week. Adam Mayes and Joe Saenz were the 466th and 467th fugitives on the list to be taken into custody. In May, Mayes—who was wanted for the alleged kidnapping of a mother and her three children—was captured just one day after being added to the list as a result of public outreach. Saenz—who was wanted for several homicides, kidnapping, and rape—was apprehended in November after a multi-year investigation by the Fugitive Task Force. Supervisory Special Agent Joseph Lewis…

Lewis: The combination of investigative skills and public cooperation is imperative to taking bad guys off the street.

Halpern: The next fugitive to be added to the list will likely be announced in 2013.

Lewis: Field agents nominate fugitives they’d like to see on the list. Those fugitives are carefully considered, but the final selection is decided by executives at FBI Headquarters.
