Mollie Halpern:  An 800-pound piece of stone recovered from the rubble of the Pentagon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be on permanent display at the FBI’s Washington Field Office.  James McJunkin, is the assistant director in charge there.

James McJunkin: I don’t think life was ever the same since the attacks.  It changed everything for us.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau and this is ‘FBI This Week.’  The limestone block honors the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the teamwork between local, state and federal agencies.

McJunkin: Because of that relationship things went much more smoothly and effectively.

Halpern: Major General Karl Horst of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington presented the piece of history to the Bureau. 

Major General Karl Horst: …As a sign of our respect and thanks for being there for us that day.

Halpern: The FBI arrived at the Pentagon six minutes after the attack and more than 700 agents worked around the clock at the crime scene for several weeks afterwards.

McJunkin: It was a monumental effort.

Halpern: The stone serves as a symbol of the Bureau’s top priority of protecting the United States from terrorism.
