Mr. Schiff: The Orange Glove Bandit is now behind bars thanks to a Chicago police officer. Cynthia Yates at the Chicago FBI office says the police and FBI had great bank surveillance pictures.

Ms. Yates: “ He was sporting these bright orange-colored gloves, hence the name.”

Mr. Schiff: Yates says that a police officer on the joint Violent Crimes Task Force made the ID.

Ms. Yates: “One of our task force officers was reviewing the bank surveillance photos, and he recognized this guy as someone that he sees every day selling newspapers on the street.”

Mr. Schiff: Yates says the officer then compared photos from another hold-up.

Ms. Yates: “He concluded that this was, in fact, one and the same person.”

Mr. Schiff: Yates says the task force got into their vehicles and went to a street corner in South Chicago to make the arrest.

Ms. Yates: “While he actually selling copies of The Chicago Sun-Times at his usual spot.”
