Mollie Halpern: A new FBI investigative tool will be leveraged to help the Bureau and its law enforcement and private sector partners to identify and prevent cyber attacks.

I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is FBI, This Week. Malware Investigator gives community of interest partners the ability to submit malware files. Through an extensive analysis, Malware Investigator will determine the damage the file can inflict. Unit Chief Steve Pandelides says Malware Investigator will provide a technical analysis report to the submitter.

Steve Pandelides: After submission, the report can get turned around in a matter of minutes to a matter of hours.

Halpern: The report will arm law enforcement and the private sector with information needed to take appropriate action.

Pandelides: It will enable our private partners to protect their company’s networks and help our state and local law enforcement partners further their investigations. It will also provide the FBI a global view of the malware threat.

Halpern: Malware Investigator will be accessible via computers, handheld tablets, and mobile devices. It will be rolled out this summer on www.malwareinvestigator.gov
