Mollie Halpern: The FBI Academy is implementing a new integrated curriculum in which special agent and intelligence analyst students will train together.

I’m Mollie Halpern with FBI, This Week. The training reflects the FBI as both an intelligence driven and operational law enforcement organization. Owen Harris, the assistant director of the Training Division, says when agents and analysts work side by side, the FBI can better achieve its mission.

Owen Harris: The new agent trainees, when they graduate, they should know exactly what an intelligence analyst does and how that will complement what they do. And similarly, the intelligence analysts when they graduate from Quantico, they should know what a special agent does and how that complements what they do.

Halpern: Agents and analysts will sit in the same classrooms for new courses in fundamental threat analysis, critical thinking, ethics, and more. The majority of the training, though, will be geared to each career.

Harris: Where the agents are learning their law enforcement skills, firearms, practical applications, defensive tactics; whereas the analysts are learning strategic analysis, briefings, reports writing, and skills like that.
