Ms. Ballew: FBI investigations continue to evolve with the use of forensic accounting.

Mr. Cuff: “That evolution is an effort to professionalize and enhance the FBI’s financial investigative capabilities.”

Ms. Ballew: Supervisory Special Agent Michael Cuff, chief of the Forensic Accountant Unit at FBI Headquarters. He says these accountants work on complex sophisticated investigations.

Mr. Cuff: “National security investigations such as counterterrorism, foreign counterintelligence investigations.”

Ms. Ballew: And criminal matters.

Mr. Cuff: “Complex matters such as your corporate fraud, your securities fraud matters, health care fraud, your traditional white collar investigations.”

Ms. Ballew: Once a new top tier accounting professional comes on board with the FBI, training is provided.

Mr. Cuff: “A comprehensive instruction course designed to take these accounting professionals from the private sector and enhance their investigative capabilities and give them training on legal statutes, investigative processes, and other procedures.”

Ms. Ballew: And that allows them to hit the ground running when they enter on duty, to more quickly advance investigations. I’m Denise Ballew of the Bureau and that’s what’s happening at the “FBI, This Week.”
