Mollie Halpern: FBI employees continuously deal with crime, terrorism, and the darker facets of life. The Bureau’s chaplains program provides employees comfort and support.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is FBI, This Week. The program is interfaith; more than 100 religious leaders from many faiths currently volunteer for it. Volunteers must meet strict criteria to serve the FBI.

Monsignor James Campbell wanted to be an FBI agent when he was young but realized his true calling was the priesthood. He now provides a listening ear to employees in the FBI’s Buffalo Division.

Monsignor Campbell: Just to be part of an organization like the FBI—that’s reward enough.

Dr. Margaret Swank of the Employee Assistance Program says the chaplains reinforce the FBI’s core values and our motto of Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity.

Dr. Swank: The FBI chaplains help support the ethics that the FBI is founded on. They help support the moral compass of Bureau employees.
