Mollie Halpern: A free user-friendly online tool is helping the FBI and its law enforcement partners protect the United States from terrorism.

Steven B. Bennett: It’s groundbreaking.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is “FBI, This Week.” The eGuardian system enables FBI, law enforcement, and Defense Department users to submit and share unclassified information with a potential nexus to terrorism. An FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force analyzes the information and determines how to react to it if it’s a threat to our nation’s security. Supervisory Special Agent Steven Bennett says the system has proven to be successful.

Bennett: There have been incidents of eGuardian submissions from law enforcement partners that have added value to ongoing FBI investigations or initiated new investigations.

Halpern: If the FBI determines the information does not meet the threat threshold, it’s removed from eGuardian.

Bennett: In so doing, it protects the privacy and civil liberties of the public.

Halpern: EGuardian—an effective information-sharing technology system helping to keep America safe.
