Mollie Halpern: Are you suspicious of an elected official or public worker involved in a bribery, embezzlement, or other corruption crime? The FBI’s top criminal priority is to combat public corruption.

SSA Chris Garrett: The FBI will not tolerate public corruption at any level of government, whether it’s politicians, appointed officials, government contractors, and even law enforcement.

Halpern: That was Supervisory Special Agent Chris Garrett, who is one of the FBI’s subject matter experts in public corruption. The FBI has dedicated teams of special agents and analysts who work this crime in each of its 56 field offices throughout the country.

Garrett: The FBI investigates public corruption from the smallest of towns to the highest level of government.

Halpern: Public corruption costs the U.S. government and taxpayers billions of dollars a year and compromises our country’s national security.

Garrett: These crimes betray the public’s trust, and it’s our proud duty to protect the American way of the life.
